Use
of the Orthobal
The
patient centres their weight so that the red light on
the display is illuminated. The patient is
then asked to look away from the display, shift their
weight from one foot to the other and then to centre
their weight. The object is to retain the
'feel' of the correct weight distribution and then look
at the display to see if they have got it right. This
often takes several attempts as the patients tend to
over compensate at first. Asking the patient
to shift their weight from left to right can reveal
time lag differences, and the visual display emphasises
this problem and enables self correction.
